Typo-Translations: Film to Book

Exploring the translation of ideas from film onto paper, this book reflects the experimental nature of Chris Marker’s La Jetée through color, type, materiality, and space. Additional poster/postcard series created as invitations for film screening and design show.

By incorporating vellum paper, red-colored film, and glossy print paper into a perfect-bound softcover, the reader experiences multiple perspectives, storylines, and illusions that mirror the out-of-sync timelines developed throughout the film. Layers of the script, analyses of the film, inserts of theoretical physics textbook chapters, and transcendental poetry aim to overwhelm with layers of human curiosity.
